Wastewater
The Clarksville Wastewater System is one of the largest in Tennessee and serves approximately 170,000 people. Below is a brief description of what composes the physical wastewater system and the operations staff who do an excellent job of operating and maintaining it according to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), Water Pollution Division and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
It is our goal and commitment to protect the Cumberland River and its tributaries, the environment, and the general public from pollution during the transmission and treatment of Clarksville’s wastewater.
Wastewater Treatment Plant
The wastewater plant is currently staffed with 24 employees covering the disciplines of operations, maintenance, laboratory and management. Each employee is trained fully to understand the wastewater treatment processes and properly operate the plant.
Wastewater Collection System
The wastewater collection system is comprised of 870.4 miles of gravity mains, 239 sewer pump stations, 196.7 miles of force (pressure) mains, and 20,717 manholes. In order to operate and maintain this complex system, Clarksville Gas and Water staffs a total of 71 employees with disciplines including:
- Industrial Pretreatment
- Pump Station Operation and Maintenance
- Management
- Odor Control
- Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Survey (SSES)
- Wastewater Construction and Rehabilitation (for Repair and In-House Replacement of Wastewater Lines, etc.)
Support Divisions
The wastewater system is also complimented with two electronics specialists to operate and maintain a complex Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Other wastewater operations support divisions include:
- Customer Service
- Finance/Accounting and Purchasing
- Fleet and Building Maintenance
- Information Technology
- Internal Engineering group
State Certification
Note: State certification is required of all designated staff once they are qualified to sit for the state examination.
